Last night, in the city of my birth and where my father is buried, I received a Star on the WALK OF FAME. I had a moment while driving to the ceremony, listening to one of my all time favourites, Stevie Wonder. No matter how much work I put in for my culture, for my city, for my country and for hip-hop, I’ve gotten used to being an “unsung hero” and receiving quiet praises in the back hallways, off camera congratulations, and almost mythical acknowledgement-so much so that I trained myself to never place much merit in receiving public accolades. I’ve been working hard, but shunning the thought that i need to get any acknowledgement outside of God and my family. I feel fulfillment in watching the generations who came after me shine bright and walk down the paths that myself and others help carve out. I stood on the shoulders of Giants like Saukrates, Choclair, Maestro, Dream Warriors, Michie, Rumble and Strong, Ghetto Concept, ORB and so many others. Anyways, I eventually got to a place where I was smiling and shedding a thug tear (😎), because my wife and kids, my mom, my aunt, and my team were all present to see me receive my first star. Now my children, grandchildren, cousins, fans and everyone else will always have a place to come visit and feel a sense of pride. Watching my one minute highlight reel, before I said my speech, reminded me of some of the grandiose experiences I’ve had so far in my career. I’m thankful. I’m way more thankful that although I haven’t yet earned mega millions, I’ve earned mega millions of impressions globally and have always been someone that I feel my city and country can be proud of. The other day someone said I’ve always been a fan of your music, but I’m becoming a bigger fan of you as a person and the energy you’re putting into the world. That was an amazingly powerful moment. This is for all the people of Scarborough, the GTA and Canada. You guys are the real stars. Thank you Scarborough Walk Of Fame and congratulations to all the other inductees. Thanks to my mom for encouraging me to write my first rap. Daddy, I hope you’re seeing this and feel proud. Wish you were there. Miss you everyday. 🙏🏿

***its long, but you’ll feel good by the end (loose talk😭)*** Daily, I try and find ways to balance out my life. I can’t lie-I scroll through social media and sometimes I get sucked in...it seems like everyone is doing the BEST of everything and I’m like “hmmm-maybe I should post about _____?”...then i ask myself why? Because I’m proud of material possessions that I once couldn’t afford or to “inspire others”? Nah-its to pop style too. We all have an urge to pop style every once in awhile. It’s like when you’re with your new girlfriend or boyfriend and you want to show your ex how well you’re doing now. Should it matter what they think? Nope. Not if you’re really secure with your tings. Let them 👀 from around the corner (and pretend like they didn’t see you). Just live your life and do it for yourself. Well, mans been trying to move with humility and balance out the fuckery u guys read daily (hourly/by the minute etc)...allow me to break my code for a sec and express something that is pretty dope. Thursday I’m going to be honoured with a Star on the Scarborough Walk Of Fame. I was born in Scarborough Centenary Hospital waaaaay back in the days, lol. My family came to Canada as people looking to better their lives. I didn’t realize that this honour meant as much as it does to my family until in Atlanta the other day, my Aunty smiled a massive heart warming smile and said “look pon Ms. Donna’s son...what a ting”. It made me happy that my family was happy. That’s usually what fills my spirit up the most. This Thursday October 18th is the ceremony and I’m very proud to accept it in my birthplace of Scarborough. I never need anybody else to verify me except God (he knows my struggles and all of what I overcame), but this one is fun. We REALLY came from nothing and I’m gwanning good, stillll. Don’t let your present circumstances dictate your future levels. U can do anything and become whomever you desire. I suggest being the best version of yourself. 💪🏾🙏🏿👍🏿👊🏿✊🏿It’s an eastside ting eh?

It’s thanksgiving in Canada. I am beyond thankful for being able to wake up like this, this morning. There was a time when my wife and I weren’t sure we could even have a child and I’m blessed to have three beautiful, curious, intelligent youts. (even if they’re in your bed, Jackie Chan-ing your clawt all night). All praises due.🙏🏿While many civilians are out here doing photoshoots for the gram, I’m thankful to have lived so many days filled with life changing experiences that will never see the light of day (trust me youts-everything ain’t for everybody to see. Somethings are sacred to rass...). I’m thankful for every single OG that has given me perspective and gems that have affected my life, for the positive. Humility allowed me to actually listen and learn. I’m thankful for my years growing up in the neighbourhood. Street sense has saved my life and enhanced my life a million times over. Living with nothing allows you to appreciate everything more when you receive your blessings. I’m thankful for friends who are family and family who are friends**. Some people are out here alone and i understand the value of love and support. Couldn’t do this alone. 🙏🏿I’m also thankful to the 1st nation’s people of this land. This land truly belongs to you and i don’t take my living here for granted. I’m sure this day is an ugly reminder of the terrible atrocities that were inflicted upon your people by the settlers. Many will be insensitive about your feelings, but I must acknowledge what has been done to your people and stand with you for TRUE reconciliation and progress. You’re the ONLY people justified to say “go back to your country” in my opinion. This land is your land. 🙏🏿✅Realest Talk...With all that being said, I recognize this day as a day to be grateful and thankful for all that was learned from the past, what is experienced today, and the possibilities of tomorrow. If you’re reading this right now-stop and give thanks.🙏🏿Have a blessed one...and oh yeah-give thanks for real rap shit and curry goat (twice a year for me now, since I cut out red meat). 🦃

Yo shoutout to Bradley Cooper, @ladygaga and my brother Dave Chappelle. I saw this movie during #TIFF and YO-THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF THE YEAR. Definitely Oscar worthy. Bradley is a super cool dude but I had NO idea that he was so ill as a director too. He killed it. I was on Gaga’s Just Dance rmx (that went to number 1 on rhythmic radio in 🇺🇸), so parts of this story felt familiar. Chappelle is in a serious role and made us all proud. Real talk-go check this movie. Worth it. This ain’t a paid post-it’s just that good. In theatres today. ✊🏿✅🙏🏿 @tiff_net

Last night’s dinner event hosted by @tumabasa and @iam_mali and the fam at @youtube @youtubemusic @google (courtesy of @courvoisierusa and @coronausa) was wayyyy to lit. Atlanta came out and there was lots of love inside @treeleafmusic. Super producers, artists, writers, managers, journalists, deejays and folks keeping the culture alive and pushing the envelope were all in attendance. The food was CRAZY (as usual at Treesound), and the vibes were 🔥 🔥. This wasn’t a networking event-this was a gathering of influential like minded creatives who all have love for Mali, Tuma and black music in general. Shoutout to everybody who came through (I don’t have flicks with everybody who was there but shoutout @therontheron_ @drdavelofters @itsaking @raydaniels and so many more). There’s a difference between wanting to get in the game and being able to exist in it and run plays for success. Lots of us connecting like voltron. I’m repping from up north (shouts to Universal), but we taking it worldwide. Stay tuned...Mali and Tuma B, thanks for always being the realest.
