- Now this is something very common in Spain. As I told you, during the crisis, some companies sold clients’ informations to debt recovery firms. In order to increase their numbers, those firms began to develop false debts.
So you can receive a phone call for a firm calling you in the name of a company (ex : the phone company) saying that you have an ancient debt and owe them a small amount of money, like 100€. They usually call you and are very agressive on the phone, saying that you have to pay now or they gonna sue you, and insisting that you gave your credit card number in order to pay this debt right now.
⚠️Never ever do it ! ⚠️
Even if you have or had a contract with the initial company (the phone company maybe), you’ll receive an official letter from their part of you owe them something. It’s an ugly way to do things, they just try to threat you for nothing.

- Spain is still struggling with the leftovers of the crisis.
A lot of debt recovery companies were born during the crisis, and continue to be really active. Any society with which you contracted a service (a loan, for example) can sell your informations to these firms. As a result, there are many people who contracted a loan before and during the crisis and stopped to pay because of it who are now stalked by these firms, that can claim an amount of money really above the loan engaged and often using fallacious arguments.
For example you contracted a loan with a bank for 6000€, stopped paying because of the crisis and years later an unknown firm comes to you saying that you are in debt of 13000€, without further explanations.
Some really have monstrous ways of acting, calling your families when you don’t answer or threatening you.
But what can you do when you can’t afford to pay back or can’t pay a lawyer ?
