- Bali Mountain Retreat
- For those who don't know, I went with an anthropology class on a one week trip to Central Bali, where we hiked a lot, explored the cultural differences between native citizens and teached local pupils English. One week full of small adventures, a lot of personal reflection, good food and even better company. Seriously, this has been one of the best weeks in my life so far.
Not only have I seen things I have never seen before, more importantly did I do a lot of things I have never done before. Coming into that anthropology class, where I didn't know anyone, I was very surprised how much my values and attitudes (especially embossed by competitive sports) differ from these people who focused on understanding different cultural and philosophical aspects of different people.
Interesting aswell was me discovering new interests of mine. For example, one task was to make a daily reflection based on a picture we took that day and post it online. Turned out that I really liked to do that, talking about my experiences and what I learned from them and to talk about it with other people afterwards. Or I discovered a slight passion for taking good photos. It's fascinating, how doing entirely different stuff can embrace sides on you you never expected they were there before. Additionally, reflecting so intense about my experiences and thoughts every day teached me some very memorable lessons, showing me completely different points of view on things I already thought about a lot before.
It was just a very awesome time... Not only because of experiences, but because of the people I got to know there. Super funny and kind people who made that week unique. I'm unbelievably thankful for that.
Now it's about saving goodbye to Singapore and getting ready for backpacking through Malaysia. Holy shit, there is so much do to in this world. So much to think about. So much to talk about. And what I saw and experienced is still nothing compared to what it still has to offer.

- Another word of kindness. Sometimes I need to be better at remembering this. I had one of the most difficult days in recent memory. It’s not always easy, being new at a school can be a real challenge and comes with some steep learning curves. It’s hard to fit in, and it’s hard to find a place and not resort to being told it. I’ll keep trying to be kind and I’ll remember I’m just not there yet. Kind of like my amazing students and their own very powerful growth mindsets. #teachersofinstagram #growthmindset #kindness #teaching #internationalteacher #expatteacher
