- I get asked a lot ‘what’s your favorite country’ and while Africa isn’t a country, it’s always my favorite place to visit.
My first trip to the motherland, Cairo, in 2016 was underwhelming. Living in the Middle East, Egypt with its desert climate, Arab culture, and frequent calls to prayer, seemed like more of the same. The pyramids were cool but after the historical aspects of it, I was ready to go.
The rest of my trips (four in total) to the sub-Saharan regions of the continent solidified my love of Africa. The simpler, more natural way the people lived is something I admire. The colors always catch my attention. I notice in African cities, where there’s more western influences, people dress more western-like in grey and black suits, ties and dresses. The further out into the rural parts I’ve gone, I see more colors and less traditional dress. Lots of red, purple, yellow, and green.
I can go on about my draw to Africa for a while but I’ll stop here for now. 🌍 #theblacktravelclub #blacktravelmovement
