  • "Food can't be art. Art can only be seen, and heard. Food satisfies the primal necessity of eating, and hence can't elevate the spirit"

For thousands of years, the only senses that were considered in art were vision, and audition - since Aristotle, in fact. But touch, smell and taste are conveyors of powerful emotions that shape our identity, culture and wellbeing.

What we put in our mouths is also the most direct way of interacting with the environment - food is the nature we embody.

At times when the critical societal and environmental challenges we face are related to the way we (mis)use natural ressources, considering the "lower" senses in artistic practice, and elevating food craft to the higher arts becomes essential to trigger conversation, inspire and educate.

Food can be an art, one that can help us reconnect to each other, and to Nature. This is one of the messages that @rodrigopacheco_bocavaldivia and I went to share at #TheFinalTable - lucky to have have been invited to share this on @Netflix - the world’s most influencial content platform.
