  • 🏛🏺🏛 Archaeo-News 🏛🏺🏛 Archaeologists have found a fresco in an ancient Pompeii bedroom that depicts a sensual scene of the Roman god Jupiter, disguised as a swan, and a legendary queen of Sparta from Greek mythology. The figure of Leda being impregnated by the god in swan form was a fairly common home decoration theme in Pompeii and Herculaneum, another town destroyed in AD79 by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius near present-day Naples 🏛🏺🏛 Arkeo-Haber 🏛🏺🏛 İtalya'da arkeologlar Napoli şehri yakınlarındaki Pompeii antik kenti ve kazı alanında süren çalışmalarda Yunan mitolojisinin önemli karakterlerinden 'Leda ve Kuğu' figürünün betimlendiği bir duvar resmine ulaştı. 79 yılında Vezüv Yanardağı'nın patlamasıyla volkanik küllerin altında kalan Pompeii antik kenti, 1748 yılından bugüne kadar yapılan çeşitli kazılarda ortaya çıkarıldı.

  • Damascus Gate باب العامود שער שכם
  • Early this century, General Gordon “of Khartoum” was fascinated by the resemblance to a skull of a small hill outside the Damascus Gate. The evidence at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre had not convinced him that that was the authentic site. Although it is now partly obscured by a bus station, the hill does bear a striking resemblance to a skull. As the Scripture says, Christ was buried in a tomb in a garden near to where He was crucified. (John 19:40, 41, 42), Gordon excavated at the site and found the remains of a garden in which there was a Jewish tomb. This lovely, unspoilt place is where so many have entered into a new and deeper sense of commitment and love for Christ. Even if it is not the authentic spot, it gives us the clearest presentation of Calvary and the tomb. Ultimately we come not to worship a place but a person.

    _______________

Architectural Relief Depicting the Gigantomachy, the battle between and the Giants and the Olympian gods, who were led by Zeus in Greek mythology. 300-101 B.C., ancient Etruscan. In flowing robes, a god and goddess capture a Giant, depicted with wings and serpent-like features, to deliver the final blow in this epic battle. These three animated figures were probably once part of a series of ornamental covers called antefixes, which were placed along the lowest row of roof tiles on a small building, probably a temple. Etruscans often decorated their buildings with brightly colored sculptural compositions based on Greek mythology.
